Play Steam Games on iPhone with Backbone One Playstation Edition gen2 USB-C / Steam Deck Alternative

Profile picture for user root
By root, 17 March, 2025

Backbone One PlayStation Edition is an officially licensed mobile controller that mostly works as Xbox controller. Enticed?
There are two versions: usb-c and lightning. The one presented in this video is with USB-C port, which means it works with Android phones but also with iPhone 15 and 15 pro.

Check out my channel for other interesting videos.

Description

With a sleek design inspired by the PS5 DualSense controller, a crisp white finish and PlayStation’s signature button layout, I can say it's good looking. However, the experience isn’t perfect. Especially used outside playstation environment. For example, when used with iOS games or Steam link, most games will recognise it as xbox controller, which gives you on scree hints with wrong glyphs.

Design & Build

The controller feels solid. It has asymmetrical joysticks and slightly ribbed handles to improve grip. Weird choice to light up only the Backbone button and not with a steady light, but a mild beacon.

Comfort

It's comfortable for extended gaming sessions but some buttons are not in the right place, like the Backbone button which can often be pressed accidentally.

Performance

The controller works well for remote play, with low latency. There are however issues with button mapping on most games.

Connectivity

The USB-C port allows you to charge your phone while playing, and there’s also a 3.5mm jack for wired headphones. However, if you want to do mirroring via USB-C cable, you cannot because the port sends only the power.

If you want to use this information on your own website, please remember: by doing copy/paste entirely it is always stealing and you should be ashamed of yourself!
Have at least the decency to create your own text and comments and run the commands on your own servers and provide your output, not what I did!
